Commonly referred to as the Columbus Monument by local residents, the original name of this official city landmark is the Drake Fountain.
Created in 1892 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's discovery, it was originally located outside the old Chicago city hall building. It was moved to South Chicago in 1909 and officially landmarked in 2004. In the background is Robert Hall Clothing store.
Drake Fountain provided cold drinking water to workers.
A gift to the city by hotelier John Drake.
