Established in the 1940s as an anti-aircraft training unit. Later it was used to test and develop rockets, missles and drones under the name of Projectile Development Establishment (PDE) Aberporth. Later names included the Royal Aircraft Establishment and Defence Evaluation and Research Agency Aberporth before part-privatisation as MOD Aberporth. Current activities include the testing of UAVs and RADAR aparatus with the site being operated by QinetiQ
