  • this area is turkish military forces' training field. because it is now protected, can't edit it... please avoid putting 40 years old data to nowadays' geographical data!
  • kezzyhomeros, if I can edit this protected place, so can you! Protected places cannot be edited only if you are unregistered user. http://www.wikimapia.org/wiki/Protecting_articles
  • why should we place data then on places that back 100's or 1000's of years old? This logic does not apply. If by the use of force, Turkey has expelled the inhabitants from their homes and ethnically cleansed the place, they cannot erase the geographical / historical significance of any place.
  • The "inhabitants" were mostly EOKA supporter's. With many an active EOKA member, who not only murdered British servicemen & their wife's, but also slaughtered whole villages of Turkish Cypriots & their own Greek countrymen who didn't toe the same political line they did. These terrorists have been dubbed the most cowardly of all the oppositional forces the British Army has ever encountered & British Army has seen them all. Many Turkish Cypriots lost much land in the South, where they had to leave under pain of death. The Turkish population in Cyprus were mostly farmers which meant they owned a disproportional amount of land compared to population size. This Land was also stolen, the inhabitants expelled from their homes & the land ethnically cleansed. You can lie in your schools all you want & build shrines to these so called heroes of EOKA, that make my stomach turn every time i see them, but i saw it with my own eye's as a young man serving & my fellow soldiers & I witnessed what really happened in Cyprus. I will never forget.
  • Many people from Assia indeed supported the EOKA liberation struggle against the British Imperial forces, like most of the Cypriots, and they are proud of it. The people of Assia never attacked innocent women children or the Turkish Cypriots. Don't you realize that the biggest curse of this place has been the divide and rule policies of the British Empire? When we all realize this, then we have a chance to survive in this place. Are you aware that there was no fighting incidents in the wider area of Assia between 15th July and 14th of August, the day the Turkish armed forces occupied the village? I have first hand experience of the ethnic cleansing methods employed by the invading Turkish army between 14th and 28th August 1974. I was there and I have seen how the Turkish army and unfortunately some Turkish Cypriots from neighbouring villages have acted during those two weeks. 13 people were shot dead the first day and 84 more persons were reported missing. Only one, Andreas Kasapis, the American born 17 year old at the time has been identified so far. 70 missing persons were civilians, and 8 of them were aged 8 to 18 years of age. I can continue this as much as you like and give you more details if you wish.
