Purvis Bay is a large deep-water bay at the South Western end of the strait separating Nggela Sule & Nggela Pile Islands.
During the second world war, Purvis Bay was used by both the Japanese and American/Australian forces as a supply point and seaplane base, and consequently contains several shipwrecks resulting from air attacks by both sides.
