Chaminade is an academically rigorous, all-boy's high school. The first classes were held in the Bar Building on Franklin Ave while the first building was being constructed. In 1931, classes were transferred to the main building and the school achieved accreditation by NYS. Recent additions since 1950 include the east wing, faculty residences, the Darby Auditorium and the Activity-Athletic Center which came under national fire in 2006 for its $20 million price tag. The Hearst Auditorium was named after Victor Ganzi '64, who was CEO of the Hearst Corporation.
