park, closed, psychiatric hospital / clinic

The Northville Psychiatric Hospital originally served as a school for "feeble-minded children." It was converted to a psychiatric facility in 1952, and closed in 2003. Finally starting to get torn down in 2018, will be converted into a park with walking trails, and the location of the Northville Police, Fire, and Public Service Departments.

  • As a kid, we played baseball at a school nearby (Northville High?) and would dare each other to go explore the tunnels that are rumored to exist in the area which connected the Hospital to the outside world. This area used to scare me horribly. Never actually went in the tunnels though.
  • You are completely wrong. Northville Regional was built in 1948 and never was part of the Wayne County Traiing School. You are confusing 2 different places. The Wayne County Training School opened in 1926 and never was part of Northville Regional. www.w-c-t-s.com

  • then were exactly was the training school. I had an uncle that was placed there in the 1930's. I get more confused the more I research. I thought the "school" for feeble children was in place at the hospital long before it was opened for a general population of mentally ill patients. My parents told me my uncle was at Northville psych.
