The canal has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada, officially named the Lachine Canal National Historic Site.

The three entrances to the canal--this complex sector is unique since it enables visitors to see the first canal and its two enlargements and offers a landscape with much to see and do. Explore René-Lévesque Park and the outdoor sculpture garden. Watch the boats docked at the Lachine Yacht Club and imagine those that will soon go back up the navigable channel towards the lock. Or just pause to contemplate Lake Saint-Louis and its panoramic vistas.
