History
The College is the successor to the Hinckley Grammar School whose origins date back to Tudor England. John Cleveland was a Royalist poet who was a pupil at the Hinckley Grammar School. In the mid-1960s the school moved to its present site as a comprehensive school educating students between the ages of 14 and 18 and in 1974
it became the John Cleveland Community College. Today, some 1700 students in the 14-18 age group attend the College full-time.
There are 100 full and part-time teaching staff with 90 support staff. In addition there are numerous other groups and classes ranging from playgroups to the Cleveland Seniors using the College.
College Context
During the course of 2004 the College successfully bid for Science College Specialist School Status and exciting developments are now
taking place on this front. For example, the extensive re-development of the Science laboratories and the modernisation of the Mathematics suite of rooms has been undertaken.
