Important mid-century office building for several reasons: First office major complex built outside of Minneapolis (1954). Originally designed and built for Prudential Insurance Company of America as it expanded into a regional headquarter model (this was one of six complexes across the country). Highly controversial at the time because of the park board's original 1952 decision to sell 30+ acres of Theodore Wirth Park for private development; this resulted in a lawsuit that rose up to the Minnesota Supreme Court where it was decided in favor of selling the land in 1953.
