Site of the former Kerr Mills complex, also known as the American Thread Company. Mill #1, the "red" mill made of brick, was furthest west, built in 1888 at the end of Kerr Street (since lost); it spent its later life practically on top of the corner of Martine Street and the Brayton Avenue Extension. Mill #2, the larger "gray" one, was made of granite and was in the middle; this was the site of the Kerr Mill Outlet Store. Mill #3 was the "white" mill, built in 1908 of cinder blocks painted white. (There were also a couple of small storage and out buildings in the complex as well.)

The three main mills, which were only a few yards apart from each other, were lost on January 12, 1987, in one of the most recent great conflagrations to strike the city. The fire started in the boiler room of Mill #1 and spread east, the smoke being visible for some thirty miles, the fire being intense enough to melt not only the Martine Street asphalt, but also the siding off of the houses across the highway.

Now the site of the Meditech building (the western building) and the UMass Dartmouth ATMC facility (the eastern building).
