  • Until 1971, this was an all-boys boarding military academy run by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Grades 1-8. The cadets arrived in full uniform on Sunday evenings and were dismissed on Friday afternoons. It was called St. Joseph's Military academy (SJMA). It ended that tradition and became co-ed after 1971. The education was SUPERIOR. The lifestyle was relatvely spartan, nearly ascetic. Cadets awoke to a bugle call, and Taps ended the day. The sisters were not unkind, but still not family. Mr. John Dalton was the military instructor.

  • I attended St Joseph Military Academy, '68-'70. Best memory: gathering around TV, watching the first steps on the moon. The sisters were tough, but the foundation, great. Even learned to play piano, and continue today.
