Unknown coal shaft filled approx 1985

For many years on this site was a small coal shaft with an old Ruston Bycrus Excavator set up alongside the shaft providing the haulage for the cage. Now long gone and the shaft filled and covered over. Believed to have been connected to the small freemine further down the road towards Ruaredean and perhaps in use as the second way out of that mine and/or for ventilation purposes.
