King George Community School (Saskatoon)

Canada / Saskatchewan / Saskatoon
 school, heritage, primary education

This school was built in 1913 from a design by David Webster. The Masonic symbols on the façade are typical of Webster's designs. Plans called for a domestic science room on the upper floor, quarters for the caretaker, and a dining room. The final cost of construction was $156,210. Over the years King George School has done very well in the athletic department. For example, it won the J.D. MacDonald Cup for hockey six times between 1929 and 1951. Having Gordie Howe on their team in the 1940s certainly didn't hurt their chances of winning!
