UMass Lowell Boathouse, located on the banks of the Merrimack River, where campus rowers team with the Merrimack River Rowing Association, Still River Outfitters and Northeast Paddlesurf to make Lowell the center of water sports activity in the Merrimack Valley. The University offers instructional and competitive row programs, kayak instruction and rentals, special events, boathouse membership and more.

The DCR transfered ownership to the University of Massachusetts Lowell do to budgetary issues. The university recieved one million dollars from the state to renovate the boathouse. The renovations were recently completed. UMass Lowell is keeping the boathouse open to various organizations that utilize the river for recreation and is planning to have a crew as a new varsity sport.

  • The comment should be inclusive of all the users of the boathouse. The three main rowing programs are the UMASS Lowell Crew Program, Merrimac River Rowing Association and Lowell High School Crew Program. These are listed in longevity order of the programs. Additionally it formally housed the Community Sailing Program [Lowell Regatta Sailing] and currently houses the River as a Classroom Program conducted by the Tsongas Industrial Center River as a Classroom run by the Tsongas Industrial Center
