Dracut, roughly 25 miles north of Boston, is a town in Middlesex County with a population of 28,562 as of the 2000 census. It is home to many active farms, including Shaw Farm and Brox Farm. It is also thought to be the location of one of America's first textile mills: the Beaver Brook Mill. The origin of the town's name is unknown, but what is known is that Dracut was founded in 1653 and officially incorporated as a town in February 1701.
