Barnes Wallace did early experiments on this lake while developing the 'bouncing bomb'. A tautology sometimes the lake is recorded as 'Silvermere' as it was named by the 18th century in the same way as (Lake) Windermere and various meres most often in the east and north of the country from the Germanic, in turn from the latin 'mare' being sea. The estate was in the far south of the parish of Walton and remains in Hersham parish from a Church of England perspective, on the Weybridge borders however and in Weybridge post town.
