Anant Krishna Vaidya and Ambadas Krishna Vaidya founded Shree Hanuman Vyayam Parsark Mandal, Amravati as an akhara in 1914 to link up the movement of physical education with the National Freedom Movement and modernize and systemise the traditional Indian System of exercise by incorporating in it the Western method of physical education. The akhara was renamed in 1918-19 as the Hanuman Vyayam Mandir.During course of time this institution grew from strength to strength.
Few landmarked achievements are
1) Athletes trained here were tested in the C.P.& Berar Olympic Meets held in 1925 with great success.
2) The Mandal formed Special Wing of social workers as Civil Defense Force in 1932.
3) The first All-India Physical Education Conference was organized by the Mandal in 1946,and with its success a permanent organization the “National Association Of Physical Education and Recreation” was established in India.
4) The members of the Mandal attended the gymnastic meets held in Europe in 1936,1949 and 1953.
5) The Mandal started a women’s wing to do away with prejudices against physical education for women.
6) The Mandal established the Indian Institute for Diploma in “ Physical Culture and Recreation” in 1946.
