  • Heliopolis - Helio=sun and polis=city (Sun City) in Greek. Heliopolis has grown over the years. Starting in the mid 1800s, the elite of Egypt started migrating to the East of Cairo, establishing the modern Heliopolis (Masr El-Gedida in Arabic). It was primarily used as a launching place and headquarters of companies for the construction of the Suez Canal. It is about 7 Miles East of Cairo, on the road to Suez.
