  • TECHNOLOGY IS playing greater role in staging Ramlilas (The life story of Lord Rama), as each year passes by. With Internet becoming popular everyday, this year a new trend, that of webcasting of Ramlilas has emerged. A webcast is a media file distributed over the internet using streaming media technology, essentially webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet. Webcasting not only provides a forum for people to see Ramlilas from the comfort of their homes but also gives the traditional Ramlilas, a global reach. People all across the world can watch Ramlilas online, which also help in promoting rich Indian culture and heritage globally. Not only this it enables thousands of followers of Lord Rama world over to join the Ramlila celebrations, wherever they are located. On the third day of the Ramilias across Delhi, Dhanush Yagya was staged by the artistes. Ashok Vihar Ramlila staged Sita swayamvar and Lakshman Parshuram samvaad which were followed by marriage celebrations of Lord Ram with Mata Sita as Lord Ram entered Ayodhya. Audiences were ecstatic as Lord Rama broke the Dhanush (Bow) to win the hand of Sita. There was shower of flower petals from sky as Lord Ram married Sita. Gopal Goel, general secretary, Ashok Vihar Ramlila committee said that entire Ramlila is being staged alongwith the traditional Ramayana chaupaiyan. According to him, people al all ages have lot to learn from the lessons of Ramayana – the great Indian epic. “This year the entire Ashok Vihar Ramlila is also being webcasted through internet for the first time and can be accessed globally on popular demand” he added. According to Mahendra Nagpal, officiating president, Ashok Vihar Ramlila committee “Today, when television and multiplexes are becoming very popular, it is heartening to see that thousands to people find time out of their busy schedules and come to see Ramlila with their families everyday."
