In 1883 the National Malleable Castings Company began recruiting Slovenian immigrants as workers in their factory. The Slovenians made up 48% of the population of WESCO.

In the early 1900s, when tensions arose with the largely Irish denomination at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Slovenians petitioned to create a new Catholic parish in the neighborhood. Holy Trinity Catholic Church opened in 1906. The church hosts a senior adult day care center, food pantry, and until recently a kindergarten and daycare center.
