Church of St. Bernadette (Lourdes)

France / Midi-Pyrenees / Lourdes
church, conference centre, Roman Catholic church

On the day of the last Apparition on 16th July 1858, Bernadette was unable to be in front of the Grotto of Massabielle, because the police had barricaded it off. Therefore she went to the other side of the Gave and she met Our Lady in spite of the barriers. Almost on the exact spot where Bernadette prayed on that 16th July, the modern Church of St. Bernadette was blessed in 1988 by Bishop Donze, 130 years after the events. It was designed by the architect Jean-Paul Felix.
On the right of the Church is the "Hemicycle" where the French Conference of Bishops meets each autumn. The style of the building is completely modern.
