The Gothic church was built in 1406 - 1410 and several times rebuilded. Surrounding cemetery was founded in 1414 and served for a long time as the main Plzen necropolis (after the plague epidemy in 1599-1600 to the beginning of 1902). In the 1956 was the cemetery disestablished and rehabilitated and gravestones were levered out with the exception of most considerable citizen, which were retained, e.g. entrepreneur Emil Skoda, founder of Skoda Works, Josef Kajetan Tyl, Czech dramatist and author of Czech national anthem lyrics, Frantisek Smetana, writer and educator of Czech composer Bedrich Smetana.
