Small Quarry

USA / Maryland / Barnesville /
 water, quarry

I have not actually swam in this one because bodies were found in it a few years back. I don't know if they jumped in and died, or they were dumped there, so I stick to the bigger quarry.

  • when were there bodies found? when is the last time you have been to the quarry? I drive by this place every day almost and stopped today to look around....tons and tons of no trespassing signs. Not sure I want to be arrested for trespassing at 38 years old to see a hole in the ground with water but it is very intriguing to me for some reason
  • i got there frequently. the large quarry has huge cliffs you can jump off well worth the risk
  • I made it as far as the stream recently and what I didn't realize was if I kept walking along it I would have gotten to the small quarry with minimal effort. I was in my work clothes so I am going to come back in shorts and some shoes I don't care if they get wet. Gotta see it..thanks for the response
  • When I first discovered the quarry i followed the stream as well. I came across the small quarry and though "Damn thats big." When I got through the tangled brush and fallen trees and climbed the final hill the the larger quarry, the sight took my breath away. Easily one of the most rewarding explorations of my life, and I've been on a lot. This place is dangerous, historical, secretive, and protected. All the great characteristics of an adventure. I advise everyone to go take a look. But don't leave your trash there. I hate it when people do that.
  • these pics were takin in august 2007
  • The smaller quarry was recently gone through by the ATF/bomb squad due to some stupidity of some friends of mine!! Would not reccomend swimming the small quarry. The water is very stagnant in that one. Looks ok, but if you disturb it it reaks to high heaven! Both make a great spot to smoke a jay or drink a beer and look out over the water and soak it in! Just clean up your trash!!!
  • It is owned by someone in the MCPD. Check in with Montgomery County Hunt Club? They may "allow" you to go back there or grant some sort of permit. Be careful of the little quarry its banks are a little steep and very overgrown with brush - LOTS AND LOTS of snakes. I lived in Dickerson a while ago, my brothers and I used to go back to the quarry a lot.
