It is a sinkhole that formerly assumed to be a meteor crater that was formed in 1892, diameter 30m. Similar sinkhole formations are visible nearby.

  • Sorry to disagree but I visited the crater, shown on tourism maps, when I was in the area in 1968.
  • and there was no sinkhole there, just a shallow crater with a raised edge around it. There was no road to it in the 1960's and I backed away when I saw the guards at a Persian border post watching me through their binocular telescopes.
  • In the photo - a typical karst subsidence, (hollow?, deepening?), but not a meteorite crater. I will try to go there, to look closer.
