The Hallwyl Museum is made up almost entirely of the collections of Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. She began her extraordinary accumulation of art, antiques and furniture in the late nineteenth century. There are more than 150 old master paintings here, along with collections of fine porcelain, silver, textiles and household objects. In all, there are more than 50,000 objects in the collection. The museum is housed in one of the grandest private houses ever built in Sweden, which was donated to the state in 1920.
