The Brick Tower was built by King Henry III between 1238-1272. Sir Walter Raleigh (1552-1618) was briefly imprisoned in the Brick Tower in 1592, when he offended Queen Elizabeth by marrying Elizabeth Throckmorton, a maid of honor, without permission.
