Originally a women's only liberal arts college opened in the 1960's, Neumann College, now a co-ed facility with limited post-graduate (M.Ed. and MBA) courses, is named after Bishop St. John Neumann, a German-born immigrant who would become the second U.S. Catholic, and the first in the Philadelphia area (the other being St. Katherine Drexel) to be canonized (by Pope Paul VI) as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.
