Sheffield is a town situated 20 km inland from Devonport on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia's island state. It has become a major tourist attraction due to it becoming a town of murals, based upon the instrumental contribution of local tourism pioneer Brian Inder.
Named after Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom, as the people of THAT Sheffield founded Sheffield, Tasmania, Australia, but originally called it New Sheffield. They soon realised that plain old Sheffield sounded better.
