Fuerte San Felipe del Morro —or Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Spanish— is a sixteenth-century citadel which lies on the northwestern-most point of the islet of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Named in honor of King Philip II of Spain, the fort, also referred to as "El Morro" or "promontory", was designed to guard the entrance to San Juan bay, and defend the city of San Juan from seaborne enemies.

  • I haven't been here since I was 5 years old, and that was in 1977! But I remember my trip very distinctly. I can still smell the damp dungeons, the iron bars, and the darkness that had me white-knuckling the whole time. My goal is to visit my native Puerto Rico soon. I just wish one day it can become a separate country.
