The camp finally closed in 2004 as it was found surplus to MOD needs, however the site still maintained a 24-7 security presence until funding finally ran out.

The camp is now completely derelict and although some buildings have been broken into there is surprisingly no vandalism or grafitti which was nice to see, the eerie thing is though the power is still on which gives a very Resident Evil feeling to it, but adds to the ambience of the place.

The camp has recently been sold to developers who are transforming it into a retirement village.

  • This camp is now being used by First and Only Airsoft (F&O) as of april 2010, the first game is on April 17th, followed by fortnightly games every saturday.
  • There appears to be some inaccuracies in the history of this site. I was a member of a TA unit between 1958 – 1961 and we stayed at this camp and trained on the moorland training areas close by. I was trained in the use of a bazooka sometime between those dates. The camp facilities were very basic huts at that time. We travelled from our Manchester base at Old Trafford by truck and I was at times one of the drivers. I don’t recall any Polish personnel on the site at that time, although I could be wrong. • I was serving with the (Regular)Royal Atillery 78/79 and did two weeks training at Anzio camp. I remember a lot of T,A, Royal Signals but no Polish people. All ops carried out at night. I see the discrepancies in the history.
  • I do not see any reference here or in the History to Polish personnel. The external link is not operated by Wikimapia. If you would like to edit the main discription please advice or join the community.
  • The discrepancy is not so much about the Polish personnel from WWII, it is that most of the histories of this camp, including the one above, say it was not in use through the 1970's when a number of us trained there,
