  Silop is one of the remote barangay of Mainit Surigao del Norte. Also serves as boundary between neighboring municipalities of Sison and Placer. Early history reveals that before it became officially recognized as a barangay, this place used to be a hide-away among few families from lowland Anislagan to protect their young women against the harsh of the Japanese Army during World War II. After the war, these families settled in and engaged in farming as a source of their living. Early history also reveals that few people were already living this area prior to the war and they are considered as the pioneering families of Silop.
