The Metropolitan’s Residence was erected simultaneously with the refectory and bakery. It is located opposite to the St. Sophia’s main entrance. Several Kyivan Metropolitans devoted their energies to the creation of this pearl of the Ukrainian Baroque. Erected under Barlaam Vanatovych, the building was a one- storied. His successor Raphael Zaborovsky built up a second storey. In its construction, most probably, took part a talented architect I. G. Shedel.

Finally, Raphael’s successor — Timothy Scherbatsky completed the construction, having invited the architect S. Antonov. Metropolitan’s Residence has the appearance of a magnificent two-storied palace completing with a mansard under the roof “with bending”.
