The Kirtland AFB Riding Stable was formerly the Radiobiology Laboratory, which was part of the Biophysics Division of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory. Here, radiation effects research was conducted, first on Beagle dogs and then on sheep. The Laboratory was closed in 1970 when the three bases: Kirtland, Sandia, and Monzano merged. Shortly afterward, the Radiobiology Laboratory, commonly known as the "Goat Farm" became the Kirtland AFB Riding Stable, which is used and maintained by horse owners stationed on Kirtland AFB.
