The judicial system is comprised of three basic components: the courts, the bar, and administrative support. All of these judicial elements are impacted by the responsibilities of Clerks of Court and their respective administrative staff. Each county in South Carolina elects a Clerk of Court by popular vote to a four-year term.

Clerks of Court maintain all court records, provide docket management, and oversee the receipt of fees, fines and costs. They obtain caseload statistics which they report to Court Administration. Clerks of Court provide the necessary staff support and assistance to ensure a more productive operation of the judicial system.
