  • That is NOT how rift valleys form. Rift valleys form at zones of continental divergence, not at transform boundaries. Hayward is a transform fault, tributary to the the convergent San Andreas transform boundary, which connects between the East Pacific Rise and the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
