Ex-USAF Boeing B-47 Stratojet #50-0062 on display at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Savannah. Similar B-47s were involved in both the Wassaw Sound "lost nuke" incident, and also the bombing of a farm house in Mars BLuff, SC incident, both in 1958.

In the former, a B-47 suffered a mid-air collision with another aircraft, resulting in the jettisoning of a live nuclear weapon. The weapon is believed to have fallen into Wassaw Sound just southeast of Savannah, where it reputedly remains to this day.

In the latter, a B-47 accidentally pickled off a nuclear weapon during an exercise near Florence, South Carolina. Though the fissionable material did not light off, the bomb's detonator did, leveling a farmhouse and barn, creating a large crater, now a fishpond, which likewise remains to this day.
