Wakefield Estate originally belonged to John Reid, whose brother owned the neighbouring Friendship and whose family owned Long Pond. The Jamaica Almanac of 1840 lists the acreage as 1421 and the owner as Mary H. Reid. The present town of Wakefield is economically dependant on the Hampden sugar Estate and there are a number of links to the Estate, including the clock tower presented by the Kelly Lawsons, owners during the late 19th century. Population: 2.724 (1991 census).
