Blow Horn

USA / Pennsylvania / South Coatesville / Pennsylvania Route 82

Area folks are known to refer to this particular intersection as "Blow Horn." Being that state 82 goes up a hill here, I'm told that before stop signs were installed motorists were asked to blow their horn to warn traffic turning off of what is now 841. "BLOW HORN" is still spray painted on the building that nearly juts into the intersection, visible if heading northbound on 82.

My Grandfather, Conley Davis, painted the "Blow Horn" on the Mill from the mid 1960's on through the 1980's. Not sure if it was there before and he was refreshing the paint, or if it was his idea. He lived in the old stone house just to the north of the mill. I know not everyone listened, and he was "first on the scene" for a number of accidents there over the years. I know he used to pester PenDOT to make that a three way stop at the intersection.
