One of the earliest churches in Clarke County, GA, Bethabara Baptist Church was founded in 1843 under a brush arbor. The cemetery is one of the oldest in Oconee County, and includes at least 12 former slaves. The sanctuary was built in 1913 from hand made bricks from the Collins family farm, and the large stained glass windows are from Europe (and date to the 1910s). In recent years, the building has been added onto twice, and it continues to be a source of inspiration and of beauty.
