In the "White palace" (rus. Belyi dvorets) the historic Brest-Litovsky peace treaty was signed in March 1918 which gave Soviet Russia a chance to withdraw from the World War. Before 1939 it was home to an officers' casino and rooms to accommodate guests. In 1941, the Soviet 75th Reconnaissance Battalion barracked here.
