Built in 1919, the Sabin Lock is a 1,350ft long, 80ft wide and 23.1ft deep lock built to augment the adjacent Davis Lock. Like the Davis Lock, the Sabin was built to the proportions of contemporary Lake Freighters however its relatively shallow depth made it less and less useful as the freighters calling the Soo Locks grew larger.

Placed into caretaker status and no longer used for vessel passage, the Sabin Lock is slated for demolition along with the Davis Lock to make way for a new lock with similar dimensions to that of the Poe Lock. Demolition work on the adjacent Davis Lock began in June of 2009, with the Sabin slated for initial demolition work in 2016
