house, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, 1840s construction
Plantation home of the original land holder of the Brookland area. Colonel Brook was a slave holder. The family eventually donated the mansion to an order of Catholic nuns who, in turn, handed it over to the Benedictine nuns of St. Anthony's School (one block east). Those nuns told of having slaves' chains removed from the basement walls of the mansion.
