Also known locally as Bird Rock, White Rock is currently owned by the Caffey family. It was purchased in the 1920s by three investors for $140. A number of movie scenes have been filmed here in the past and it was also featured on California's Gold with Huell Howser. The tiny island is also home to rare malva rosa, a plant which was decimated on Catalina Island due to being eaten by feral goats.

Michael Caffey - director of many TV shows for series such as Hawaii Five-O, The Wild Wild West, The Virginian, B.J. and the Bear, Barnaby Jones, CHiPs, the Dukes of Hazzard, MacGuyver, and Wonder Woman - inherited two-thirds of the island and bought the remaining parcel for $1,000. Caffey has tried to sell the island, as recently as 2010, although donating it to USC is also possible. Although it is unlikely to be developed due to zoning and environmental issues, the reefs surrounding the tiny 1.3-acre island remain a popular diving spot.
