Parusnoye (former German estate Gaffken)

Russia / Kaliningrad / Primorsk /

Russian: Парусное (Parusnoe); before 1946: (German) (Gut) Gaffken (Russian: Гаффкен, Gaffken).

Originally, the estate (Rittergut) was connected as a Vorwerk to the German Order's castle Lochstädt. Together with the Vorwerk Schäferei (near Neuhäuser), Gaffken was responsible for the breeding of horses for the heavy-armored knights of the castle. In 1397, there were more than 100 horses counted on both estates.

This place was the birthplace of German Noble Prize winner Wilhelm Wien (1864-1928). Wien received the 1911 Nobel Prize for his work on heat radiation.
