On June 30, 2015 it ceased to exist to finalize a merger with UT–Pan American to form UTRGV

Previously The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, frequently abbreviated UTB/TSC, is an educational institution located in Brownsville, Texas, on the land once occupied by Fort Brown. It is a member of the University of Texas System. The institution was formed from a partnership between Texas Southmost College and the University of Texas-Pan American at Brownsville.

The old mascot was the Ocelot, the new mascot at UTRGV is the Vaquero.
