On April 16, 1945, the 3rd Belarussian Front forces continued their attack on the Samland peninsula and dislodged the German army from over 40 settlements, under which was Rothenen. The settlement was renamed from Rothenen (Ротенен) to Rakitino (Ракитино) somewere around 1946, but the village was evacuated and abandoned during the war in April 1945 and never populated with resettled Russians.
