  • This place was a great ski town back in the 80's to late 90's. I say was because once Vail Resorts bought the ski area, threw up several high speed lifts to pump people onto the mountain and big time investors and developers started moving in, it totally changed the character of the town, moved out a lot of the "riff-raff", and priced many of the locals out of the area(nothing new). It's still a great ski-party town, with a high density of bars and decent restaurants within walking distance from each other and the slopes. The terrain is mostly for the beginner/intermediate, with odd 20% steeper "expert" slopes. There's usually good powder to be had during the long winter, although it can get extremely cold and windy. Avy danger is usually high. Summer's are great, with tons of backcountry, but three months too short!
