Built in 1796, Newcom Tavern is the oldest building still standing in Dayton. It originally stood near the river in downtown Dayton. For many years, it served as Dayton's first history museum and home to the Dayton Historical Society, which was founded in 1896 and undertook the building's preservation as one of its first acts.

The building was moved to the park in 1965.
