Libechov Castle

The original fortress dates back to the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 2nd half of the 16th century as a Renaissance chateau surrounded by a wide water moat. Many personalities became chateau owners. It was rebuilt in 1720 – 1731 as a family summer seat. This adaptation was lead by F.M. Kaňka. The famous sculptor Mathias B. Braun and the painter V.V. Reiner took part in it. At the beginning of the 19th century, there was a Classicism alteration – this time the interiors were decorated by the painter Jan Navrátil.
In 1963 the castle Libechov took over the National Museum in Prague and after an extensive reconstruction in the twenty-one halls was set up a unique exposition of art and crafts of Asian cultures. About two thousand works of art and objects from China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and other countries are inimitable manner complementary to the beautiful interiors of the 18th European and 19th century.
