This Meijer on 28th replaced a smaller but historic Meijer on this same spot in 2010-2011--it was the Meijer store that expanded into a "Meijer Thrifty Acres" in 1962, the first to do so. Other discount stores have gotten rid of their firsts: Target razed their 1962 store for a newer SuperTarget in the mid-2000s, Wal-Mart abandoned their first 1962 store years back, and Kmart (interestingly enough) still has their 1962 store in Garden City...and all of them were opened in 1962!
